Why Overhead / Aerial vs Ground Tie‑Out

  • Expanded Roaming Area: Provide your dogs with ample space to explore and play outdoors with limited constraints.  With zip lines up to 200 ft in length you can easily provide 2,000 sq ft of roaming space, depending on the height of your line and length of your leash.
  • Behavior Management: With added roaming space created by our trolley system, you can begin to effectively manage chewing, digging, and runaway tendencies.
  • Easy Customization: Build out your perfect custom dog run to accommodate up to 3 dogs for a tailored backyard experience.
  • Tangle-Free: Using supplied rubber bumper balls, you can manage how close your dog/s get to each tree / anchor point  or to one another if more than 1 dog is on the overhead line.
  • Dog Zipline for 2 Dogs: Tangle-free roaming for 2 dogs
  • Dog Zipline for 3 Dogs:  Our system can handle up to 3 dogs with ease by using the supplied bumpers to keep the dogs out of each other’s lead lines.

  • How to Measure: Once you have picked your two anchoring points (trees, well-set 4x4 or larger posts, framing of buildings or structures) measure out the distance between them.  Select the dog run length that will cover that span.

Installation

  • Roaming Space: A general “rule of thumb” to determine total square footage of roaming space is to multiply the length of your run by 10.  This assumes that your dog’s leash or lead line extends 5 ft to each side of the cable line.  For example, a 100 ft  dog run will provide approximately 1,000 sq feet of roaming space.
  • Measure the circumference of your tree (if using a tree/s as your anchor point/s.  Our tree straps will connect around a tree with a max circumference of 6 ft.  If your tree is larger you will need to purchase an additional tree strap for each large tree and connect them together to get a 12 ft length.
  • 2 Person Installation—having a second person assist in building out the cable dog run will make the project significantly easier.  For most people, a second person will be required.  A third person is a nice bonus, if available.

Safety & Comfort

  • RoverRoamer SkyTrack overhead cable dog runs are intended to be used in conjunction with a body harness on your dog/s.  We strongly recommend you never connect the leash/lead to a neck collar on your dog.
  • An anti-shock bungee segment is provided with every kit.  The strength and elasticity of the bungee is determined by the weight of your dog.  If your dog is nearing the next higher weight category and is an active and sometimes overzealous dog, we recommend you select the higher weight category when customizing your dog run.
  • We also recommend, especially when first using the SkyTrack, to stay present outside to observe the behavior of your dog and to make necessary adjustments.
  • When selecting a location for your dog zipline, try to find a location where, at some point along the line, your dog can find some shade and a place for water.

Multi-Dog: Dog Zipline for 2 Dogs / 3 Dogs

  • Double dog run—2 dogs are regularly accommodated on the SkyTrack trolley systems.  We would recommend at least a 75 ft dog run if you want to have 2 dogs on it.  It can be done at 50 ft but will limit each dog to approximately 25 ft of run length (250 sq ft of roaming)
  • Triple dog run—3 dogs can be accommodated on our systems but you will want a longer run of at least 85 ft - 100 ft and ideally beyond 100 ft.  If you have three large and athletic dogs, you will want to carefully consider your anchor points and the overall stress that can be placed on them.
  • Each trolley system will come with all necessary components for each dog selected.  The correct amount of bumpers will be provided to keep each dog separate from each other as well as away from the anchor points so they do not get wrapped up around them.  You will also receive the correct number of pulleys, anti-shock bungee segments, and carabiners to connect each dog to the zipline.

Specs & Materials

  • Aircraft Cable—we use 3/16”-1/4” Vinyl Coated and Galvanized Steel Aircraft Cable in a 7x19 configuration to provide a flexible zip-line and a confidence-inspiring tensile strength of approximately 2,000 (lbs). The cable itself has a break strength of 4,200 lbs.  This is then reduced as we swage a loop into one side and then when you create the final loop using the supplied wire cable clamps
  • Stamped Aluminum Pulley—aluminum sheave, olive bushing, and a riveted axle.  20kN / 2,700 lbs strength when used the way our overhead dog trolley naturally orients it.
  • Anti-Shock Bungee Segments—Depending on the size of your dog, we hand-select bungees that range in breaking strength from approx. 100 lbs (5mm bungees for dogs under 15 lbs) to over 400 lbs (16mm bungees for dogs over 60 lbs).  Our bungee segment for dogs 30-80 lbs is a 9mm bungee.
  • Carabiners—23kN Oval Screw Locking Steel Carabiner is made from heat-treated cold-formed steel, ensuring a minimum breaking load of 5000lbs/23kN. It features a zinc-plated finish, weighs 112g, and measures 88 x 52mm with a 17mm gate width.
  • Tree Straps—Made with nylon webbing similar to a seatbelt.  These have a breaking strength over 2,000 lbs.
  • Ratchets—Made with nylon webbing these have a max break strength of 3,000 lbs and a working load of 1,000 lbs

FAQs

  • Does it matter whether or not we use a harness instead of a collar for our SkyTrack Overhead Dog Runs?

    • We strongly recommend using a harness rather than a collar.  It takes the direct strain away from their neck and distributes it into their chest and shoulders.  The Neck-Safe Bungee provided with your kit will provide additional relief if your dog reaches the end of the line.  A harness will also help isolate the leash away from their face. This can help discourage your dog from chewing on (and possibly through) it.

  • While on the SkyTrack, are there any safety concerns I should be aware of for my dog?

    • Your dog loves to have fun. And you want to know that they’re playing safely.  In order to keep them safe, we recommend that you get to know how your dog interacts with the SkyTrack before leaving them unsupervised. This is especially important if you've set up the track in an unfamiliar space. Double check the distance of the bumpers from trees or other anchor points, making sure your dog(s) cannot get wrapped around one of them.Walk the area where your dog(s) will be able to roam. Check for holes or objects that could cause potential harm.  If you plan to have your dog(s) on the run for an extended period of time, do they have a place for shade and water?  Some dogs may relax right away.  Other dogs will be quite hesitant and may feel as though something is chasing them–yes, the pulley is following them close behind.  With a little time and increased familiarity, most dogs will have no problem running, playing, and resting while connected to the system.
